Kynos Therapeutics

Clinical-stage biotech company Kynos Therapeutics is developing an innovative portfolio of first-in-class medicines that fulfil a gap in available treatment for acute and chronic inflammation. 

Launched in April 2022 by Professors Damien Mole and Scott Webster, the Kynos team began their journey in partnership with the University of Edinburgh and GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), before establishing itself as an independent enterprise. 

  • Kynos Therapeutics had an existing Squarespace website that the team had developed in-house. As the business progressed, Kynos outgrew this DIY design which no longer offered the more bespoke functionality and professional aesthetic they required. 

    The brand identity was not an area the Kynos team had considered previously, but they recognised that the current phase of the business needed a stronger visual identity and a bank of branded templates to support marketing and business development.

  • Presenting a professional image

    The team behind Kynos Therapeutics is extremely knowledgeable, producing work at the forefront of their field. KSD developed a brand identity that would bring this professionalism to the forefront, including a sharp logo, consistent brand colours and fresh font choices. 

    The nature of Kynos’ research prevented the use of photography on the website. KSD elevated other visual elements such as page layout, font use, iconography and colour to create an engaging and user-friendly design. 

    The colour palette is contemporary, with warmth added through vibrant highlights of bright green and rich blue. The fonts KSD selected have a simple and approachable appearance that supports accessibility of the complex subject matter and are universally available within common applications such as Microsoft’s suite.

    KSD also applied this consistent branding to a bank of collateral including presentation deck, letterheads and business cards that Kynos personnel can pick up and use with ease.

    Strengthening the user journey with bespoke features

    KSD developed a website with straightforward navigation to make it easy for site visitors to get an overview of Kynos’ work, removing unnecessary clicks and pages and adding subtle bespoke features to streamline the user experience. 

    The news section of the site is an important asset for this fast-developing business. KSD created an engaging template for publishing news and set up dynamic blocks so the latest posts would automatically feature prominently on the homepage. We also reformatted the date display from default American to a familiar British arrangement and enabled a ‘save’ section that can be toggled on or off as appropriate when posting events. 

    It was important to showcase the extensive talent within both Kynos leadership and the board of directors, but on the previous website this page had been long and scrolling. KSD configured individual bios to display on pop-ups so the team view could appear clear-cut while personal profiles remained available. 

  • A confident visual identity is at the heart of both this fresh new website and the valuable resource templates created for biotech company Kynos Therapeutics.
