Connecting your Squarespace website to Google Search Console is a smart move to improve your site's visibility, understand its performance, and ensure it's free of issues that might hinder its search engine rankings. It's a valuable tool for anyone looking to make their website more successful in search results.

How to connect Google Search Console to Squarespace in 5 steps

Step 1: Connect Google Search Console to our Squarespace website

First we must connect Google Search Console to our Squarespace website. To do this go to https://search.google.com/search-console/about

In the top left corner click Search Property dropdown click ‘Add property

You will then have a pop-up with two options:

Domain setup options

Note: We recommend selecting Domain, however this will require adding a TXT record to your DNS settings on your domain provider. Something that is a lot more technical!

The easier option is URL Prefix. Add your website URL and press continue:

Domain prefix

Step 2: verify that you own the domain

You will then have a range of options to verify that you own the domain and can connect Google Search Console to it:

Verify ownership

If you’ve followed our previous step-by-step you can choose Google Analytics to verify your ownership!

Haven’t set up Google Analytics yet?

Read and follow the instructions this guide:

Or you can choose HTML Tag

  1. Copy the code <meta name="google-site-verification" content="youridhere" />

  2. Go to the backend of your Squarespace website and in the search type ‘Code Injection’ to find Code Injection

  3. Paste the code into the ‘Header’ section of the code injection and click ‘Save’ in the top left-hand corner

  4. Go back to the Google Console and click the ‘Verify’ button

This will then start the process for Google to look at your website's code to find that meta tag which proves your ownership of your website.

After a few seconds, it will then say ‘Success’ and your Google Search Console is now ready!

Step 3. Finding your Squarespace sitemap

To find your Squarespace sitemap go to your url and add /sitemap.xml to the end.

E.g. Your website address is https://www.krishnasolankidesigns.com/ to get your sitemap go to https://www.krishnasolankidesigns.com/sitemap.xml

Please note: your website must be public to generate a sitemap

The page will look something like this:

sitemap

Step 4. In Google Search Console in the left menu go to Sitemaps

sitemaps

Step 5. Then in the bar all you need to add is sitemap.xml and press submit

submit sitemap

🥳 That’s how you add a sitemap to Google search console!

Submitting a sitemap to Google is a critical SEO practice that provides Google's search engine with a structured map of all the pages on your website, facilitating faster and more efficient indexing.
This ensures that Google is aware of and can crawl all your important web pages, even those that might not be easily discoverable through regular navigation!
