9 things to update on your website at the end of the year
When the new year hits, you want your website to be ready to attract new clients and customers so that you can work towards those goals you’ve set!…right? Well if you have a bit of downtime then here’s a super quick reminder, a checklist if you like, of the things you can update on your website at the end of the year…
1 | A clear one-sentence bio or statement
Who’s your audience? Is it clear from the homepage? Don’t forget to make it super clear and either refine this or add it if it’s missing! There’s nothing worse than scrolling through a website and not clearly understanding what the business actually does and who they target. The lack of simply stating this means you’re probably losing business. Keep it simple, keep it clear, and keep it up to date!
2 | Portfolio or case studies
Always left off the list, or left to the bottom of the list! Don’t forget to add those new projects to your portfolio, work, or case studies page. You want to start the new year with confidence and showcase your most recent and relevant work. Being busy throughout the year means this time of year, is the perfect time to update them.
3 | Testimonials
With all the great work you’ve done in the year, don’t forget to refresh those testimonials and positive feedback. This adds credibility and trust, it’s a must-do! - Either dot these around the website or add specific ones to specific services or products, don’t forget to remove outdated ones too! There’s no harm in doing this.

4 | Raise or refine your rates and services
This one is a biggie - With the cost of living going up, I know a fair few businesses are increasing their rates. Also don’t forget, the experience, and value you’ve added opens the door for increasing your rates, sensibly of course. So, if you share your rates and price point on your website, don’t forget to raise or refine this area. Also worth letting your existing clients know that you’ll be doing this so there are no nasty surprises in the new year!

5 | Opt-ins
If you offer a freebie in exchange for someone’s email address and possibly other details, now would be a good time to make sure the offering is still of value to your audience. You could update and refine it, or if you have the capacity and your audience could do with some more value - create a new one. Just make sure it’s something they want before spending the extra time on it.
6 | Images
An easy website refresh can be done by updating your images and making sure they are on brand and in line with the overall business vision and values. I did this recently and it instantly lifted the KSD website. Don’t forget to make sure you’re optimising those images first though! You don’t want to slow down and hinder the site!

7 | Is the content still relevant?
Although a slightly bigger task than a quick update, it’s always good to review if the content is still relevant and the tone of voice (TOV) still “speaks” to your target audience. If not, take a moment to review and tweak if you can, otherwise, I would start to look to outsource the job for about getting the copy reviewed by a professional.
8 | About and Team pages
It can unintentionally get pushed to the bottom of the list, but updating the About page and in particular, checking that the Team bios are still spot on is key. Especially if you have a human-first approach to your business. Don’t forget to update the team images or any direct social links in case they have changed too.

9 | Copyright in the footer
One last tip… although you can leave this one to next year is to remember to update the copyright in your footer!
