5 Reasons Why Your Small Business Needs A Website

Not so long ago I was merrily browsing in a Facebook group and the topic of websites caught my eye.  Now, being a Digital Designer, I just had to stop and read the comments.

A small business owner was asking why she would need a website.  My initial reaction was “what a crazy question!” - especially in this day and age where technology is literally at our fingertips.  Then it slowly dawned on me that not every business owner sees or understands the relevance of a website.

So in today's post, I thought I would keep it short and simple and give you 5 excellent reasons why your small business definitely needs a website.

1 | Extension of your brand

Your website is your online “home” where potential clients and customers can find out more about who you are, what you do, what you offer and how to contact you.  It essentially represents your business values and vision in an online form.  Your logo and other brand elements, like your font and colours, also visually help your audience to connect with your brand and business, but your website is an extension of your brand that shows visitors what you are all about, and what your brand is all about.

Therefore, it is important that your brand is represented well on your website and you are able to reach your target audience.

2 | Easier to refer potential clients to know more about your offering

Your website is there to make your life easier and make you look professional.  As a small business owner you want to be able to concentrate on doing the thing you love, and not answer the same questions over and over from potential clients and customers.  A website is the perfect place to explain what you do, what you offer, why they should work with you and more.  If you have a shop you can list your products, if you offer a service you can detail your offering.

3 | Fabulous marketing tool

Every single day people search for things online.  You want your business to be found, because if you can’t be found online, then there is a high chance your ideal client or customer won’t know you exist.  Obviously there are other ways to market your business but a website can bring everything together in one area on the internet and can be a fabulous marketing tool.

4 | It's somewhat "expected" of a small business to have an online presence

What is the first thing you do if you need to hire someone? - You search for them online, or ask friends and family if they have any recommendations, right?  What do you expect to receive? - A business name, maybe a mobile number or a facebook page.  But ultimately, you want an email address and you want a website so that you can see if this business is the one for you.

The same goes for you as a small business owner.  Being able to refer people to a website is definitely expected in this day and age, it also makes your business look more professional and trustworthy.

5 | Connect with your target audience

Like the heading says, a website will help you connect with your target audience.  Being on social media will obviously help you connect with your audience too, but asking your friends to “like” your business page on Facebook doesn't necessarily target your ideal audience.  A website however, can be branded and beautifully designed to ensure it looks the part and relays the right message to your target audience. What's more is, you can collect email addresses, showcase your expertise with a blog, and specifically invest in a business asset.
